Nov. 27th, 2004 11:37 amAmusing item of the day: waking up and seeing you're on the front page of the newspaper. Yeah, the girl in the maroon sweatshirt talking on her cell phone. That's me. My mom's the one next to me in the olive shirt who looks like she's throwing a box, but is in reality just passing it. I suspect my dad and sister are in there somewhere too (Amy was the person who'd just called me) but I don't know where.
We were trying to get into the next aisle, since Best Buy was being dumb and had roped off the end of it, and then when we went around the way they told us, we got blocked by all these people with carts (seriously people, you leave the cart with someone else for a couple of minutes when you're in the middle of that many people). By the time we got over to the 160 GB HDs for $30 after rebates, there was one left, and people had three or so in their arms. My mom snagged the last one and passed it to me, and one of the guys with multiple HDs decided he would be charitable and give her one. So I passed mine off to another lady who'd been trying to get to them, since I didn't really need one anyhow, it was just sort of a handiness matter.
After Best Buy, we went off to Circuit City, which was busy, but really not insane. However, we had the slowest cashier ever. The guy would very slowly pick up the thing you're buying, look at it, locate the bar code, pick up the scanner, scan the item, put down the item, put up the scanner, pull out a little drawer, pick up the item, put the item on the top of the drawer (to demagnetize the security stuff), pick up a bag, put the item in the bag, and then repeat for every item. There were only about 5 people in front of us, and it took us probably an hour to check out.
Kohl's was pretty crazy--not so bad on the shopping/finding things side, but their lines were insane, so we didn't end up getting anything. Old Navy also had crazy lines that were blocking most of the clothes. We pretty much just walked in and then turned around and walked out. Office Max was similar. And then I got really cranky and went home and took a 4-hour nap, while everyone else went other places (which were apparently much less busy).
The afternoon was spent installing the new HD in my parents' computer and getting a fresh install of the operating system and all for the first time since they've had it (several years). Despite being on Win ME, their computer is much much happier now. ;) And also, we watched the football game. <sigh> Guys, seriously, show up next time. (And WTF to that 1-point safety call. And you suck to the ABC announcers who acted like UT's radio commentators.)
And boo to the computer getting shut down when I was thinking about coming back online to talk to someone.
