(no subject)
May. 7th, 2008 07:41 pmJust finished reading Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, which was interesting, but I'm not sure if I liked it. The bad guys were a little strawman (somewhat understandable, but still kind of annoying), and the main character kind of drove me a bit crazy. And then there was the over-the-top-ness of the moralizing. But it was still interesting.
This seems to happen to me with every book of his I've read. The plot is all right for the most part, I can't get into the characters at all, but I think the ideas are fascinating and they generally cover subjects I like. So I end up at "please ignore the people and what happens but other than that they're awesome."
This one, I think I'm closer to liking it, but I will admit that for me personally I'm probably having more problems with it because, due to the near-future and tech-saturated setting, Cory has to spend a page out of every 10 or so with an infodump about something I already know (but the average reader wouldn't). Which is totally a problem of mine and not the book's, as I know most people do not have public keys or even really have any idea what they are, let alone have them on their LJs. I am a huge nerd. ;)
I'd be interested in thoughts if anyone else takes a look at it. You can find it in the YA section of your local bookstore/library or you can download it here.
