Barenaked Ladies Are Me

Holy crap, so worth the $5*. I love it. You know how just a couple of days ago I had an equation in here of how to make a song I'll think is awesome? Yeah, that equation = BLAM pretty much.
As far as what I'd heard beforehand, I didn't actively avoid everything, but I haven't gone to a concert in a couple of years due to geography, so I haven't bought any concerts or sought any out since then. I did buy the Easy EP, some people have shared live songs with me which I'd listened to once or twice, there were the snippets in the podcasts, and I heard Adrift on that radio show Kevin was on. Still, that leaves about 11/17 that either I hadn't heard or don't remember having heard.
Track thoughts:
Adrift: I like this one, but I'm kind of puzzled why Ed got the vocals for such an obviously Kev song (Kevin's even mixed highest on the choruses). And "I'm a drift without a snowflake" further serves my theory that Kevin and Bradley ("I'm a squid without an ocean") from Project Runway are long-lost brothers or something.
Bank Job: Damn, I love this song. Just a whole lot.
Sound of Your Voice: This is really nice too. I get kind of a Queen vibe from it, probably from the background vocals.
Easy: Everybody, sing along! Aside: I think I'm the only person who's now considering buying the video from iTunes after seeing it on YouTube...I think it looks really cool, and I want to be able to see all the details. I'm still worried about whether there's DRM on it or not though, I'd like to be able to watch it sometimes. ;)
Home: This is turning out a bit like Next Time from E2E for me, I think, since I heard the live version for both of them enough to get used to it before I heard the album version. The instrumentation isn't too different from the live version though in this case.
Bull in a China Shop: I can already tell this one is going to get a fuckload of play in my car.
Everything Had Changed: Great instrumentation, this song is going to hook me pretty bad someday soon. I don't think that day is today, although I do like it a lot.
Peterborough and the Kawarthas: Um... this is nice. I think it kind of suffers from the placement, since it just sort of becomes a little resting spot between all these high-energy songs. The Weather Network (?) announcer takes me back to Jerry's apartment, which is wistful-nice.
Maybe You're Right: Also love it. Horn and string sections ftw.
Take It Back: So I was sitting at my desk going, "Wow, this album has a lot more overtly political songs, even more than E2E." And then this song came on and I thought, "Ah, well, this isn't so much..." and then the verse about the airports came on. ;) (How about some nice timing for that, huh?) I really like the instrumentation around "It's hard to keep your mouth shut, harder still to make noise...." It could have been very gimmicky, instead it's really pretty and then awesome when it kicks in.
Vanishing: This is a fucking gorgeous song. Nicely moody and atmospheric and dark and all that stuff.
Rule the World With Love: This is also really great. I think for me it suffers a bit by the placement cause I like some of the songs before it more, but this has some of the best lyrics on the album.
Wind It Up: Singalong pt 2! Since I've seen the single cover, I just spend the whole thing giggling at the pun.
Quality: For some reason, this song makes me think "Broadway". I have no fucking clue why. I don't think I get the song particularly, I'm going to have to stare at the lyrics for a while. The list of "-ologies" at the end cracks me up a bit. Not one of my favorites though.
Another Spin: This is also really great. The only bugs are a) the random drop out of everything on "Afghanistan" which kind of kills the song before it's done and b) this song is going to be like "Unfinished" in that it reminds me very much of something else and I can't think what.
What a Letdown: It's going to be a while before I get my tongue around some of these lyrics, plus whoever posted the Sims version has got me going "Joe Sel-fadalembown" for the parts I can sing. ;)
Why Say Anything Nice?: This is a heck of a lot of fun. The synth strings are amusingly cheesy.
So, basically lots and lots of awesome. Hooray!
*One concern: I don't think my credit card got charged and I don't think my song credits actually got used on iTunes. So, um. Feeling kinda guilty now. (Even though I'm going to be buying this at least two more times, for the deluxe edition and a hard copy.) I'd totally be willing to paypal you $5 or $10 if you want, guys....
ETA: Yeah, it went through. It didn't take my song credits, but I got charged the $10.81 for it.
