So, um. Less shocking than either of the two previous finales by far. I called the lyrics immediately. (And once I called the lyrics, it meant the Cylon reveal, which otherwise would have been damn exciting, was pretty obvious given the promos. Stupid promo monkeys.)
...I guess Ron decided to incorporate that after all? (It had been something bandied about for the end of the S1 finale -- Baltar was going to walk into the Opera House and "a Jimi Hendrix song" would be playing, then Dirk Benedict would be there to ask him if he recognized the song and Baltar would say "Yes" and that would be it. Supposedly, Ron had no idea what it was going to mean but he loved it, and apparently everyone had to band together to talk him out of it. I guess it made its way back in now.)
I'm not entirely sure how much I care for the specific reference there. It's something that's probably not going to hold up very well, at the very least. I had been hoping during the show that he would just make up a song and toss that lyric in there, but then they started going past that line. I get that it is important that they have a ref to a relatively contemporary song in their memory (and honestly, the implications of that are pretty crazy), but I'm still not that fond of it.
Starbuck is alive! Which, I was also not super surprised by (if only due to narrative necessity, she had to come back). Although the "I've been to Earth" thing was a bit surprising.
Baltar is not guilty! Which also, duh! It was nice that Lee got to go up and give his little speech calling everyone out, I guess, and I was also glad he got back in the cockpit, although the plausibility of either of those being allowed to happen seems rather low to me.
I was also a bit surprised at Baltar being kidnapped by the Society of Crazy Ladies Who Apparently Think He Is The Messiah, but it was over so quickly that the surprise didn't have much time to sink in.
I didn't hate this episode, but I do like both of the previous season finales (as well as a lot of regular season episodes) much, much more. There's still a lot of interesting stuff to ponder over the break though. And a hell of a lot of time that is. 2008? Honestly.
At least we're getting a movie (Pegasus?) in the fall.
I miss the ding-ys at the beginning.
