La la la....I'm in love with a four-eyed girl....

Hmmm.... so I just listened to The Instigator....and now I've gotta figure out how to run this so I don't annoy those of you who wanna wait for it to come out before you get spoilers.
Okay, here goes:
I liked the CD......but not as much as I like 97's albums. We already know that this CD is made up of some songs that wouldn't fit with the 97's sound....for the most part I like those. There are also some that would have been 97's songs, but the rest of the band didn't like them.....and although I like some of them, there are a couple that I can see why they were rejected. Also on the more 97's-ish songs, I really wish that it actually was the 97's playing them because as they are on the CD, it sounds like an LA band trying to play country and it doesn't work as well. There is also one song that I liked, but it was ruined by some absolutely terrible background vocals.

However.... as I said before, I did like the CD. So let me give you a quick rundown by tracks. 1-4, in my opinion, are the most solid ones on the CD. Our Love and This is What I Do are fairly uptempo, poppy songs, while Come Around is slow and Things That Disappear is more middling speed. But you knew about those last two, didn't you? <g> World Inside the World is more of a Rhett acoustic song....it sounds to me like one of the 97's rejects (of course you can hear the influence of the music he's been playing for about the last 10 years in nearly all the songs, but there are a few that are more prevalent), and it's one of the ones I didn't like as much. Point Shirley is an uptempo song and made me think of Simon and Garfunkel for some reason....I liked it, but it got rather repetitive by the end. Four-Eyed Girl sounds like one of the more poppy 97's songs, so it's fairly middle of the road for this album, and it was one of my favorites of the uptempo ones. Hover is a very nice soft song, although the use of jingle bells and triangle may be a bit much for some people. The El is very 97's in style, and this is the one I really missed the rest of them on the most. However, I did like it. Your Nervous Heart is a very slow ballad...I don't remember a whole lot about it besides the fact that I liked it fairly well. I Want To Live is another uptempo one, and another of my favorites off of the album, with good lyrics and a very good hook. Terrible Vision is my least favorite song off of the album, because of the BG vocals. They're almost in an a capella/choir style and it doesn't mesh at all with Rhett's voice or with the style of the song.....I was almost tempted to turn off the CD in the middle of it. I liked the song itself, but the BGs ruined it entirely. It also doesn't help that it ends the album on a very sour note, because I really do like the album, but ending on that song tends to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Anyway, that's my opinion as of right now. Disclaimers....I've only listened to the album once, and my opinions on an album tend to change around a few months after I've had it. But as it is, that's how I like it. :)
