Sewing machine?

For my crafty friends:
We've been sort of mulling around getting a sewing machine for a while now, and so we kind of ended up impulse picking one up from Costco today. But...neither of us really has any idea if it's actually a good sewing machine. And, according to the internet, it doesn't exist (except on Ebay and one random Craftster post).
It's a Euro Pro Intelli Sew 400. The Amazon reviews for the brand are rather mixed, and I don't really know where else to look. So I'm asking you guys. ;)
If it helps any, here are a couple sample things we'd want it to be able to do: hem/repair jeans, and sew liners (and sew in liners) for knit bags, etc. Neither of us is much at sewing (I am a disaster at it, to be perfectly honest), but, y'know, it's a damn handy thing to have, and it's something I'd like to figure out at some point fairly soon.

Date: 2008-03-25 03:43 pm (UTC)I really recommend finding a sewing class near you. Any sewing teacher worth her (or his) salt should be able to help you figure it out. :) The sewing teacher in my store, I swear, can figure out ANY model. Plus, you can learn the basics, and minimize your disasters. LOL!
For knitted bags, you're probably going to want to sew the liners together on the machine, and delicately sew them into the bag by hand. ;)
Jeans are tough... denim is really thick. You'll definitely need a "jeans" needle... hopefully the machine is tough enough to bust through all that thick fabric. :)
