So....I just got back from GBS and Seven Nations (YDubs were apparently in Dawnvay). Mmmmmm.
First row Sean. Picks from Sean and Seven Nations. Yes, I know you hate me. <g>
Seven Nations setlist (very general):
Up to Me
Wonderful
Scream
Leave It
Very Nice
You'd Be Mine
Jig in e minor
Asleep for Days
All You People
Twelve (actually somewhere more in the middle, but I don't remember where)
Last Call
GBS....from the setlist (which I didn't get, but had plenty of time to read....therefore the middle of the show is in very general order):
Ordinary Day
Process Man (not sung)
When I'm Up
Sea of No Cares
Goin' Up
General Taylor (not sung.....replaced by "My Way" <g> yes, like Sinatra.... seriously)
Stumblin' In
Old Black Rum
Pat Murphy
Gideon Brown
Penelope
Feel it Turn
Scolding Wife
Clearest Indication
Consequence Free
edit to add: Everything Shines
Mari-Mac
Lukey
---
Boston & St. John's (acoustic solo Alan)
Excursion Around the Bay (hey! <g>)
Fortune
We had a bit of confusion about when the concert actually *was*. The GBS site said 8, La Zona Rosa's site said 10.....so we had some problems. We went and got tickets at 7:40 and found out that doors opened at 8. There were about 20 people there waiting for the doors. We went back to Richard's for a sec and got a drink of limonada and put on tennis shoes. We got back over there at like 8:20 and found a parking spot. as we gave our tickets to the guys at the door, we overheard them counting the people coming in....we were 56 and 57. This made me really kinda sad. It was pretty empty in there until right about 9 on the dot. Richard and I snagged spots right up in front, in the most empty area. I kinda felt sorry for the 7 Nations guys. They did an okay set, but most people didn't know their songs and I wasn't as impressed with their show in any case. The crowd filled in well enough by the end of their set, although the club was by no means full. GBS was awesome, as expected, although I was sad that there weren't many Sean songs. Alan is definitely seeming to take over the lead singer role solely. Sean actually seemed kinda annoyed most of the night, although he did run over and brush Alan's hair in the middle of "Gideon Brown", causing Alan to crack up through most of a verse. (to explain the title....Gideon Brown is, as I'm sure you've heard, about "envying your neighbor's boat"....to quote Sean: "The next song is all about sex.") Replacing General Taylor, Sean sang ALL of "My Way" (It took me quite a while to recognize the song....my parents don't have much Sinatra), which was insanely amusing. I bounced around in front (and realized that I can't figure out what to do with my hands unless I'm clapping....I spent most of Seven Nations' set fiddling with my watch), and got smiles from all the GBS guys except Darrell who was too far away. <g> Richard, on the other hand, stood there immobile most of the time. (He's currently protesting that he *was* clapping some)
I am informed that I must tell you all that I was sadly incorrect in telling Richard that there were no bongos at the GBS show (as opposed to Guster), while there were indeed bongos.
Oh, and it was Chris, the GBS drummer's, "22nd birthday" tonight, so we all sang to him. Alan said he was accepting kisses after the show. Note that we left immediately afterwards....after waiting for a pick.
Some girl from like the third row or so back stole Sean's setlist (rrrrrrrr), so I guessed at the middle sections of it, as I said.
Anyway, I had a really great time. :)
Yay GBS!
edit to add: Alan also sang a few stanzas of an Everly Brothers song, "Let It Be Me", near the beginning (I think between SONC and Goin' Up, I'm not positive if that was the right order there anyway....but it was only one song apart from "My Way"), which was pretty funny too. I also wanted to add that, on reflection, kind of the area where Sean started seeming a bit annoyed was when they skipped General Taylor....the roadie brought out a guitar for Sean after My Way and then Sean started going back there to give it back to him so he could sing the song, when Alan decided that they were going to do Stumblin' In instead and and told him to hang on to his guitar.

Date: 2002-08-28 06:11 am (UTC)Sounds awesome, altho I would totally miss General Taylor. Sean and the harmonies and, well, yum. But My Way sounds awesome. Darrell's wicked hard to get smiles from even when you're near him tho, cause hes so into the music. It took us a good two or three minutes to get his attention in March to tell him his shoe was untied so he wouldn't kill himself.
*sigh* 56 days till I see them again

Date: 2002-08-28 09:22 am (UTC)You've seen GBS, and I haven't... you have a GBS pick, and I don't. We're even now. Kind of. At least I have as much a reason to hate/love you as you do me! ;)
*hugs* Glad you had so much fun.
